Good Neighborhood Association Meeting

This evening (June 8, 2006) was a very good neighborhood association meeting. There was an awful lot discussed and I would like to post some of that to this blog. Unfortunately, to post what I would like would take a great deal of space. So I won't. But over the next couple of days I will post some of the things that were discussed at the meeting. Just to mention a few: The new proposed library location at 455 Delaware (Chicorelli's Funeral Home), the Delaware Avenue Business Business Association, various upcoming events, and a very fine explanation from officer Montesano regarding neighborhood watch, safety, and police response to neighborhood problems. I will post in bits and pieces. I really think that positives should be stressed and constructive solutions to some of the issues raised should be the focus. So I will try to raise some of those things in my comments over the coming days.

  • The address John Cirrin gave for Chicorelli's Funeral home was 455 Delaware. The correct address is actually 331 Delaware Avenue. I made the mistake of repeating what he said without checking. He didn't seem certain of the address when he gave it. Even the current branch is 485 Delaware.

  • My best wishes go to those in the community who want to move forward the Delaware Avenue Merchant Association concept.

    Thanks to Beth for doing the initial canvassing and beginning to put the idea out there at the meeting;

    thanks to Mr. Garrity for volunteering to put forth resources;

    thanks to members of the neighborhood association for being so receptive.

    With the existence of so many great and unique shops and businesses on Delaware Avenue and with the potential for even more, having a merchant association that can collaborate with existing neighborhood watches and DANA to promote a climate for commerce is a wonderful next step.

    Having the library placed in such a prominent site, near the new school building and near other cultural sites (movie theatre, art galleries) is also a great move.

    Again, good job to all at DANA, for presenting, for following up and for listening. I'm sorry I missed the meeting.
